I know...my MFA is in design. My professional work has been in design. Why am I directing? First, let me say that I took directing courses at both my undergrad and grad school. And I continued to read various texts on directing. And I enjoy it, and I think I do it well. Besides, a good scenic designer can do a lot of blocking and a good costume designer can shape a character and a good lighting designer had better understand the mood and movement of a show, so we're not as far apart as some might think.
